What’s a NUM call?

Don’t look it up – because we made it up.

It means a No Ulterior Motive call or some sort of genuine, non-sales type contact. It’s when you think of someone and send a note, article or pick up the phone and tell them “Hello.” “Thank you for being a great customer.” “We appreciate you.”

One of my favorite type of call is simply calling a client, friend or relative and letting them know I was thinking of them. No fires to put out, no sales pressure, a simple, genuine hello; we appreciate you type of call.

The gesture is so appreciated by the person. No one ever resented that type of call. I often told them this was a “no ulterior motive” call. That usually got a chuckle.

When was the last time you made a NUM call to a client, friend or relative to say hello or I appreciate you. I like you. You’re a fun person.

Why not today? Go on – do it!
